ABOUT MMU LAW LIBRARY

INTRODUCTION
MMU Law Library is primarily for the use of MMU Faculty of
Law, students, and staff. MMU Law Library is committed to the continued growth of academic
excellence by providing service, resources, and an environment that facilitates legal and
law related research and curricular goals.
SERVICES
- Loans
The MMU Law Library is essentially a reference library and almost all of its
collection for use within the library premises.
- Photocopying
Facilities for making copies of library materials are available in the special
collection room.

and Information
Reference and information services are provided by qualified professional
librarian.

- The collection
The MMU Law Library collection comprising of both primary and secondary of law is
divided and stacked into distinct groups such as Malaysian Collection, Statutes,
Reporters, Reference Collection, Textbook Collection, International Law Collection,
Reserve Collection, Government Publications, Special Collection, Audio-Visual Collection
and etc. Access to the MMU Law Library collections via the Multimedia University Library
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is possible through internet.
MEMBERSHIP REGULATIONS
- Smartcard must be displayed as stated in the university
rules and regulations. Student with temporary ID are advised to present their IC (Identity
Card) upon entering into the library.
- Library membership privileges are not transferable.
- Smart card, when lost, must be reported immediately to the
Security Office and Customer Services Counter. The Library will not be responsible for
loans made via the Self-Check Out Systems.
GENERAL REGULATIONS
- Smoking, food and drinks as well as the use of handphones (
cellular phones) are not allowed in the library.
- Silence will be strictly observed in the library. Handphones
should be set to silent mode before entering the library. (Penalty: One month suspension
and for every subsequent offence, an additional month of suspension)
- The library has the right to ask users to leave the building
whose behaviour may be deemed as disturbing. Users shall not: Under University Rules and
Regulations Part II: Section 4 (i) "contravene or fail to comply with any instruction
or requirement by the University Librarian, a member of the library staff or other library
employee(s) in respect of the use of the library, its books and other facilities".
Section 29.6 " Where a student fails to comply with contravenes any legitimate
instruction, direction or requirement given or made by any officer or employee of the
university authorized to give or make the same in the University, he shall be guilty of a
disciplinary offense
- Users of the library should be appropriately attired as
stated in University Rules and Regulations.
- Bags, helmets, umbrellas, rain coats and packages except for
handbags and files are not permitted to be brought in to the library. They must be left in
the pigeon holes or lockers provided in front of the library at the user's own risk.
- Reservation of a seat is not permitted. Other users have the
right to have the seat if it is left vacant for more than 15 minutes.
- The library will not take any responsibility for any damage
and loss of personal items that are left behind in the library.
- All items which are left behind in the reading areas during
closing time may be claimed at the Circulation Counter.
- Accessing undesirable Internet sites and downloading,
chatting, email, printing and circulating undesirable materials are strictly prohibited.
- Installing or customizing any computer programs in Library's
personal computers are also strictly prohibited.
- All services at the Customer Services Counter will be closed
30 minutes before the closing time.
COPYRIGHT REGULATIONS
- Library users are fully responsible for any action liable
and contravening under the MALAYSIA COPYRIGHT ACT 1987 and MALAYSIA
MULTIMEDIA INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ACT.
LOST AND FINE REGULATIONS
- Each borrower is responsible for every item s/he borrowed.
(as stated in the library policy).
- Academic or non-academic staff who resign, on study or
sabbatical leave are required to return all materials borrowed from the library.
- Students who withdraw, discontinue or have completed courses
at the University must return all borrowed materials to the library. Students who fail to
clear any fines or return materials borrowed from the library on completion of their
courses will have their transcripts suspended. Library has the rights to ask finance
division to deduct from student's deposit.
- Official time for determining fines on overdue books and for
other purposes will be read according to the time determined in the computer system at the
Customer Services Counter. Should the system be down, library staff at the Customer
Services Counter will determine the correct time.
VANDALISM REGULATIONS
- Users are not allowed to remove any library furniture and
equipment from their original place.
- Users who are caught defacing or damaging library properties
will be subject to disciplinary action: -
* Offence : Stealing of library materials and assets - Dismissed from
University
* Offence : Vandalism (e.g. tearing, cutting, scribbling, and tempering
of library assets) - One year suspension from study
* Offence : Smoking - One year suspension from study.
