What is citation?

Citing a source within the body of your work is the way of you showing that you took words, ideas, figures, images, etc. from another place or article. It is a uniquely ways to identify a published work (e.g. book, article, chapter, web site) and normally found in bibliographies and reference lists.

Citation Format

Citation may look different, depending on what is being cited (e.g. book, article, chapter, web site) and which style was used to created them.
Example of Style (s): 

  1. American Chemical Society (ACS)
  2. IEEE
  3. American Psychological Association (APA)
  4. Modern Language Association (MLA)

What to cite?

  1. Information including facts & figures
  2. A full sentence used in other publication
  3. Exact phrase or words from a person
