Each borrower is responsible for every item she/he borrows (as stated in the library policy).
Academic or Non-academic staff who resign, on study or on sabbatical leave are required to return all materials borrowed from the library.
Students who withdraw, discontinue or have completed a course at the University must return all borrowed materials to the library. Students who fail to clear any fines or return materials borrowed from the library on completion of their courses will have their transcript suspended. Library has the right to ask the finance division to deduct from the students’ deposit for settlement of library outstanding.
Official time for determining fines on overdue books and for other purposes will be read according to the time determined in the computer systems at the Customer Service Counter.
OVERDUE MATERIALS
Users with overdue items outstanding are blocked from borrowing other library materials until the overdue items are renewed, returned or the fine is paid. Failure to receive an overdue notice does not absolve the user from the responsibility to return or renew the item by the due date or the recall due date, nor does it constitute grounds for reducing the fine.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN
Fines will be accrued from the actual day the item is overdue. No grace period is provided. Exceptional is given to post-graduate students, distance education , where there are seven days grace period, A grace period is an amnesty period , not an additional loan period. Fines imposed are as follows : No materials may be loaned out until the overdue library loan item is returned.

DAMAGED & LOST ITEMS
Library users are responsible for library materials. The users shall be billed for the cost of repairing materials damaged beyond usual wear and tear while on loan to the users.
If the item is lost while on loan, the lost item must be reported immediately. Fines are not charged after the loss is reported and the user is given a period of one-month time to search for the item. Payment must be made by the end of the one month if the item is not located.
The users have the alternative to purchase the item and replace it or request the library to replace it. If the first option is chosen, the user has to replace the same edition or the latest edition of the lost book. A processing fee of RM20.00 of each item plus any overdue fines accrued before the report is made is charged.
If the library is requested to replace the lost item, the user has to pay a replacement fee which includes twice the market price of the book, the processing fee of RM20.00 of each item and any overdue fines which may have accrued before the item is reported as lost
No cancellation of the replacement charge is allowed if the user finds a lost item after being paid for a replacement bill.
All items replaced must be of the same edition as or the latest edition of the lost item
Interlibrary loan – The interlibrary loan users are responsible for library materials borrowed from the MMU library. The users shall be billed for the cost of repairing materials damaged beyond usual wear and tear while on loan to the users. The SHDL lost book policy will be imposed if the item is lost while on loan by the interlibrary loan user. No new materials may be loaned out until the lost item is returned.
LOST BOOK POLICY SHDL AMENDMENTS (FOR OUT-OF-PRINT ITEMS)

If the item is lost while on loan, the lost item must be reported immediately. A maximum of 30 days is given to replace the book.

If the library is requested to replace the lost item, the user should pay twice the market price of the book plus the processing fee of RM20.00 for each item lost and any overdue fines which may have accrued before the item is reported as lost.

If the library identified the item as a rare item*, a penalty of RM1000 for overseas publication or RM500 for local publication, plus a processing fee of RM20.00 for each item lost and any overdue fines will be imposed. Rare items refer to unique collections which are limited copies available or produced, have significant impact to the courses in MMU, are personal copies given to library by prominent figures or are library materials which are not available in the market.

If the item lost is out-of-print, the user has an option to replace the item, with similar subject/title, with equal or higher price from the said item and with the latest edition. Selection of the book is upon approval from the subject expert. The processing fee of RM20.00 of each item lost and any overdue fines will be imposed. OR

If the price cannot be determined for out-of-print items, rare item policies number 4. will apply.
