DOCUMENT DELIVERY SERVICES

SHDL provides Document Delivery Services (DDS) to users in the event of any article/paper in a journal/book/conference proceeding, or a patent is unavailable in the MMU library collections. This service will assist users to obtain the desired articles from other institutions and it is extended to MMU staff as well as postgraduate students. This service is provided in order to support research, teaching and learning programmes of the University and please take note that any request must be related to these activities.

There will be charges applied for each document requested. Librarians will notify users about the cost before proceeding with the request. Please take note, any request from the user cannot be cancelled, especially requests that have been submitted to British Library.

How many items can be requested through Document Delivery Services?

  • Postgraduate Students – Max 5 items per month
  • MMU Staff – Max 10 items per month
  • Registered External Member – Max 3 items per month

SUPPLYING PERIOD

  • Item from local Institutions: 1 to 3 weeks
  • Items from overseas Institutions: 2 to 8 weeks.

*However, the supplying period is subject to the supplying library

CHARGES FOR UNCOLLECTED ARTICLES

Please note that extra charges will be imposed on users/requestors if they fail to collect the articles requested within a month (after being notified by staff in charge). The charge will include: – cost of the article plus an administrative fee of RM10.00 per article.

  • Provide complete information.Please state in the request form the location/publisher of the requested item (If available) to speed up the process of document supply. Users can check this information via library OPAC (Local & Overseas Institution).
  • Type / write your request legibly
  • Respond promptly when the staff in charge requests for additional information pertaining to your request

All requests must comply with the Copyright Law as stated below: The copyright law of Malaysia (Copyright Act (Act 332)) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy/reproduction is not for:

  • selling, letting for hire, or by way of trade, offering or exposing for sale or hire, the article;
  • distributing the article
    • for the purpose of trade; or
    • for any other purpose to an extent that it will affect prejudicially the owner of the copyright; or
  • by way of trade, exhibiting the article in public

If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of fair use, that user may be liable of copyright infringement and the penalty is “shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding twenty five thousand Malaysia Ringgit or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both”.

INFORMATION RESOURCES reserves the rights to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law
